TROTTING NOTES

From Auckland D. Bennett, who trains Mute for the Auckland owner, Mr E. E. Cressey, will have charge of Vain Lad until after the meeting at Addington next month. Vain Lad will be making his first appearance at Addington when he contests the Introductory Handicap, when he will start off 12 yards behind for a mile and five furlongs, 3min 49sec class. Vain Lad, who is by Winn Alto from Vain Lass, has won two races during the season, and his other performances show that he has been consistent. In the early part of the year Mute put up two sterling races to run into second place each time, but he has not been sound and has been raced little in the last 12 months. He will be an. acceptor for the Stewards’ Handicap at Addington, and with his usual smart beginning he will make things interesting. He will have a big job in front of him, however, to beat Bush Laddie, Lament, Dark Hazard, and others. The Pony Pacer ■ The pony pacer, Bayard, has not won much money since he came to Canterbury, but he has had few chances to prove his worth. He is under the care of F. C. Dunlevy, at Addington, and is doing nicely m his work. For one of his' Bayard is one of the best pacers seen in action for some time. At Addington While the military authorities are still in charge of the Addington racecourse their presence will not interfere with the running of the August meeting there. The trotting and military authorities are working in harmony so far as the use of the course is concerned and at the coming meeting the public will not be inconvenienced. Gold Bank * * Gold Bank Avon the All Age Stakes at Addington two years ago, but since then his flashes of high class form have been few and far between and he has failed to win a race. Of late he is reported to have regained his old form and at his best he will be a force to be reckoned with, His next appearance will be in the Trial Handicap at Addington. A Problem The Southland-owned Willowbank has proved something of a problem to racegoers in Canterbury since being brought from Southland, but during the season she won three races besides filling minor places. Willowbank has plenty <4 speed, but has a tendency to bore when hard pressed. This failing may yet cause trouble. A Good Winner Plutus won only one race during the 1940-41 season, but ■ his winnings amounted to £lOlO. Plutus has been a really good stake-winner for his owner, Mr W. J. Gudsell. Expensive Horse Power, who was sold to Mr G. J. Barton for £IOOO, has won this amount for his new owner, but he has taken some time to do it. During the present year he started 16 times, but his winnings amounted to only £3OO.
