COLLIERY REMAINS IDLE

CHAIRMAN’S OPINION ON CLAUSE

.(F.0.0.R.) GREYMOUTH, June 20. There is no fresh development in the Dobson mine dispute. In the meantime, the colliery remains idle-and will continue to be idle until after the sitting of the Coal Mines' Council at Greymouth on Monday. , When invited by make available for publication, if pos sible, the exact finding of the. mde pendent chairman on the matter m.dispute, the president of the Gre ,^Y al V (Dobson) Miners’ Union, (Mr W. Purdy) said he had no hesitation in doing so. He was quite prepared to do so for the miners part , as was definitely nothing to hide so far as they" were concerned.. ■ w “The independent chairman (Mr W. Meldrum,' of Greymouth), a former, stipendiary magistrate, stated, an clause submitted t° . ior ~Ju' terpretation is as follows. minimum wage . shall be calc lated on a weekly basis instead of on a fortnightly basis, payment to be made fortnightly. The weekly meas-ure-up shall be required only r i 1 ? rv ?mnm which appear likely to be minimum wage places and,’ he adds, it was admitted by the mine manager that mi accurate calculation of the minimum could, not 'lds made without 3 weekly measure-up. “ ‘Tne right to decide as to the “places which appear likely to be minimum wage places” is not given to the employer solely; nor is it given to the employee solely.
