'Sir—The . Government's licensing, even before the; war, left this country very short of consumers' goods, consequently warehouses were bare when war was declared. At the moment, rugs are not obtainable, blankets i»- a similar position, piece goods not obtainable: in fact, we are advised by the mill* that they can give lis nothing whatever, covering these lines for* year at least. Hereis a[service the Government could render the public.' fry finding .employment that would: be lucrative and essential and at the same time -keep the civihjui Jopulatton clothed. If the Minister for Labour and the Minister for Industries and Commerce could consider this matter and act promptly they would be "doing this country a great service.— Yours, etc., RETAILER.
