CANTERBURY TEAM TO PLAY ARMY CHALLENGE FIXTURE FOR PATRIOTIC FUNDS All other Rugby matches will be postDoned next Saturday, when the Array Rugby team plays its special challenge match against the Canterbury provincial team for the benefit of patriotic funds. The match will be played at Lancaster Park at 2.45 p.m. and will be preceded at 2 o'clock by a display by the band of the Royal New Zealand Air Force. Finlay (Manawatu and Canterbury), and J. E. McKenzie (Ashburton and All Black trials). The Army team is probably the strongest that has ever played in the senior competition in Christchurch. It was unbeaten until last Saturday, when it had to take the field against Southern without nine of its best players. Unfortunately two of these, T. T. Mackie and J. A. Robertson (both of Otago), will still be on the injured list next Saturday. The referee will be Mr H. T. Coulter and the touch judges Messrs A, Smale and A. J. Mason., SECONDARY SCHOOL FIXTURES GAMES ON LANCASTER PARK URGED “We should like to get more secondary school matches at Lancaster Park," said Mr E. V. Phillips, chairman of the Canterbury Rugby Union, at the meeting of the management committee last evening, when application was made by the Christchurch Boys’ High School for its first and second fifteens to play Timaru Boys’ High School at Rugby Park- on Friday. June 27. Mr Phillips said the Lancaster Park Board had expressed the opinion that such games should be played at Lancaster Park if possible. The union, of course, wished to help the board in this way. Mr W. C. Dailey said the headmaster of the school had previously refused permission for the team to play an Lancaster Park. , Mr J, K. Moloney: When the game is played at Rugby Park we give the school all the proceeds. If it Is played on Lancaster Park the board must take its percentage of the gate. It was decided to approach the school authorities in the matter. . A request from the Ellesmere Sub-Union for representative matches between Canterbury B and Ellesmere seniors and Canterbpry third grade (B section) and Ellesmere juniors - was referred to the competitions committee for favourable consideration. The Wellington team suggested September 13 as the date for the return match with Canterbury-at Christchurch. It was decided to ask the Wellington Union to accept an earlier date if possible, August 23 being suggested. The New Zealand Union advised the reinstatement from the League code of A. J. H. Gcddcs.
