TROTTING NOTES

Unlikely Starters Banford.and Dan’s Pride, who figure among the acceptors for the Nelson meeting, are unlikely starters. Blazeaway Blazeaway, engaged at Nelson today, is a good-looking five-year-old by Jack Potts from Marama Rose, and will probably be dr'ven by H, Donald, a part-owner. It is some time since Blazeaway started, but he is a speedy pacer who may come right with rac ing experience. A Promising Trotter At the last Kaikoura meeting Seameal, trained by L. F. Berkett, won the Keenan Handicap of a mile and a half in 3min 37 l-ssec. a particularly good effort on a track not conducive to high speed. A bay mare by Wrack Seameal is a prospect in the class she will meet to-day. The field she defeated at Kaikoura included Suspense. Sea Wolf, and Windsor Lad. Direct Bingen Direct Bingen is not a genuine stayer but he is a good beginner and can pace a mile and a quarter as fast as most horses in his class. He is owned and trained at New Brighton by G. F. Robinson. Ar Acceptor Although Mahoe’s name did not appear in the list of nominations or the handicaps for the Nelson meeting, he is an acceptor for the cup and the Riwcka Handicap to-day. In each race he figures on the limit. A Sprinter Shady Glen has raced consistently and well during the season, and while he has only won one race, he has been placed several times, He may show to advantage in the short distance races.
