“CONVOY MEANS WAR”

Hitler’s Threat To United States INTERVIEW WITH MR CUDAHY (Received June 7, 12.30 a.m.) (U.P.A.) MONTREAL, June 6. The North American Newspaper Alliance has issued a copyright account of an interview between Mr John Cudahy, formerly United States Ambassador to Belgium, who is now in Europe, and Herr Hitler. Herr Hitler said: “Convoy means war.” He insisted that Anglo-Saxon maritime powers had set a precedent

for a long time that the escorting of munitions to the enemy with armed naval forces was a warlike act. He laughed at the idea that Germany planned the conquest of the Western Hemisphere, and said it was about as fantastic as invasion of the moon. He believed the idea was furthered by warmongers who wanted war because it would be profitable for business. He was confident that the Navy and Army chiefs of the United States, like the Germans, considered an invasion of the Americas wildly imaginary. The combined shipping of the United States, Britain, and Germany was insufficient to transport the army of millions which would be required. Herr Hitler said he had never heard anybody in Germany say that the Mississippi river was the German frontier in the same spirit that Mr R. G. Menzies, the Australian Prime Minister, had referred to the Rhine as the frontier of Australia, but since the Rhine was their frontier he had decided to send some Australian prisoners to the Rhine so that they might acquaint themselves with the frontier atmosphere.
