CONTROL OF THE WATERFRONTS
♦ ADDITIONAL APPOINTMENTS MADE (P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 6.' A notice appearing in the Gazette announces the appointment of Mr J. O. Johnson,- secretary of the Wellington Waterside Workers’ Union, as as-sistant-Waterfront Controller for Wellington. Mr W. J. Cuthbert has been appointed to a similar position at Auckland, and Mr A. J. Lever-Naylor has been appointed wharf superintendent at Auckland. The Acting-Prime Minister (the Hon. W. Nash), stated to-day that the additional appointments had been made to ensure the maintenance of control throughout the full period that ships were being worked. This work was now being done round the clock to enable ships to be turned round 'as quickly as possible.
