PRISONERS OF WAR

NEW ZEALANDERS IN GERMANY (F.0.0.C.) LONDON. May 8. At least 56 New Zealanders are prisoners of war in Germany and Occupied France to-day. This number does not include those captured in Greece. Recent information indicates that a number of them have been moved from camp to camp, and that several have been settled in camps together. News has been received from three prisoners recently: Leading Seaman W. D'. Maud, R.N.V.R. (N.Z.), (Auckland), who was the gun layer in the Port Hobart: and Mr B. E. Cooper (Wellington) and Mr J. B. Coulston (Dannevirke). who were both in the Port Brisbane. They wrote letters to the High Commissioner stating that they were well, and were being treated with consideration. They were then at Bordeaux. Little information is available concerning Miss P. Acland (Christchurch) and Miss E. Harcourt (Wellington), both of whom were passengers in the Port Hobart. Their whereabouts is not at present known, but a letter wriL ten at sea and received in London stated that they were well and being treated courteously. Due to constant changing of addresses there has been some difficulty in keeping in touch with many of the New Zealanders in Germany. The fact that several airmen are together in one camp was proved when a photograph reached London showing a group of officers. They were Flight Lieutenant W. M. Nixon (Oamaru), Flying Officers L. H. Edwards (Patea). L. Miller, R. I. C. MacPherson. and I. C. Kirk (Auckland). P. G. Brodie (Wanganui), T. F. S. Johnson (Hamilton), and R. C. D. McKenzie (Canterbury).
