REAFFORESTATION ON WEST COAST
The statement that it was considered that most of the West Coast lands were not suited to farming was contained in a letter received by the Greymouth Borough Council from the Commissioper of State Forests (the Hon. F. Langstone) in answer to a plea for a reafforestation plan in the Grey County. The letter added that unfortunately of the land that was unsuitable the true. forest land was considered unsuitable for the vigorous growth of relatively fast-growing exotic trees, because the land \vas generally too poor in quality, texture, and drainage. The only areas suitable for exotics were required for farming, but all areas were being investigated in connexion with the Government’s scheme for the rehabilitation of soldiers, and any suitable areas would receive the closest attention.
