OPAWA-ST. MARTINS SUB-BRANCH The annual meeting of the OpawaiSt. Martins sub-branch of the Plunket jSociety was held at the home of the president, Mrs W. S. Newburgh, who presided. ~ Mrs C.H.. Holmes*, on behalf ot the committee, and Mrs Cecil Wood, on behalf of the central committee, ex- - pressed their appreciation of the work done by Mrs Newburgh while she was president and regretted that she was not seeking re-election. Officers elected were: President: Mrs W. R. Olliver; vice-presidents: Mesdames W. S. Newburgh, N- Coxhead, H. C- Holland; honorary secretary: Mrs G. T. Lucas; honorary treasurer: Mrs Alan Brown; committee: Mesdames C. H. Hojmifi, G. H. Wood. T, W. £atr terson, J. F. Scott, R. V. Hughes, W. Wilson. E. H. H. Taylor. N.-E. Taylor, A. J. O’Brien, R. Donald, Ashleigh Phear. A talk was given by Mrs W. Mackay. on the work of the Crippled Children Society, Mrs sang and tea was served by the committee. ENGAGEMENT . The engagement is announced of Joan Barbara, only daughter of Mr and Mrs E. W. R. Leslie, ,of Hawarden, to Kenneth Ernest, second son of Mrs E. V. Wright, of Milford, Auckland, and the late Mr A. E. Wright, of Dunedin. MUSIC ALE ' Members of the Christchurch Ladies* Choir, conducted by A. Worsley, provided an enjoyable programme at the Canterbury Women’s Club last night The choir sang three ejccerpts from the cantata; • ‘‘King Revo’s Daughter” (Henry Smart),-the soloists being Mrs C. Chapman, Mrs A. Ledsham, and Miss, G- Torkingtjn. also ‘‘Spinning Chorus” (Wagner), “An Autumn Picture” (Gerrard lyilliams), and “Sir Eglamore” (Balfour Gardiner), followed by three madrigals, and three .part songs. Solos were sung by Mrs McCarrlgan, Mrs Voller, and Mrs Haase, and-duets by Miss Torkington and Mrs Cyril Goode. By special request, Mr Worsley played piano solos, improvisation upon two Norwegian folk tunes (Grieg). The accompaniments were played by Mrs J. C. Cullman, and Mrs J. Palk, director of the club’s 'music circle, welcomed, Mr Worsley and the choir, and thanked them for providing the. excellent programme. HOME ECONOMICS ASSOCIATION The annual meeting of the Home Economics Association was held, at the Jelllcoe Hall last night.” Mrs S. L. King gave a demonstration on floral work. ■x' !
