TAXATION FOR PATRIOTIC FUNDS
A letter advocating that funds for patriotic purposes should be raised by taxation instead of by voluntary dona-r tion was received by the . Wellington Provincial Patriotic Council’ recently from - the Masterton District Patriotic Committee. It waS decided to refer the letter to. a conference to be held next month. The letter stated that at a re-cent-meeting in Masterton to wind up the special £1,000,000 all-purposes appeal organisation, it was the > opinion of members representing every section of the community that- the methods at present’adopted ■ of collecting funds for patriotic purposes by means of raffles,'queen carnivals an<l voluntary giving were wrong - in, principle.-. They Involved ‘/flogging the willing horse/' It was unanimously resolved “that representations’'be made’to 'the Minister fori Internal that in >future all funds necessary, for patriotic purposes should be raised by taxation.
