PHARMACY BENEFITS
■ * OPERATION FROM MAY 5 (P.A.) WELLINGTON. April 30. The pharmacy benefits under the Social Security Act will operate from Monday, May 5. The Minister for Health (the Hon. A. H. Nordmeyer) explained that a chemist was at complete liberty to co-operate or otherwise in the scheme. It was possible that m some cases entry might be postponed; but it was not anticipated that this would occur in any substantial number of cases. Only prescriptions signed by a doctor on or after the commencing date will be available for the free service, which Includes all doctors’ prescriptions. In the meantime proprietary medicines are excluded, but where there is a British pharmacopoeia, the equivalent cost of this will be set off against the cost of the proprietary line, and the customer will pay the difference, as is the case with most friendly societies.
