SOS FROM MOTHERS
Sir, —Saturday’s parade showed that there are! hundreds of young women in Christchurch who are physically fit, willing, and keenly patriotic. Most of them have been training for national service duties, and are eagerly awaiting an opportunity to serve their country. At the same time, there are hundreds of other women, married women; who already are actively fulfilling a patriotic service that is taxing all their strength. These, the mothers of young families, are totally unable to obtain any help in their homes, and, in some cases, could not pay for it, if it were available, because of desperately heavy household expenses. The point is: will any of the national service trainees come forward to help the hundreds of harassed young mothers in the meantime; that is, until they are called- up. There is scarcely one mother in Christchurch, whatever her circumstances, . who would not be, more than grateful for even one or two hours’ competent help daily. COtitd greater service than this be given the State at this critical period, for without these mothers the Whole ,of our national effort would hgve-Uitle meaning in the future. Here i#s a patriotic 'work for the benefit of Trr- that is simply begging* tol at this very instant.— - v^uw^teliif,
