HARD OF HEARING LEAGUE
NEW PREMISES READY Properly equipped rooms are now available for the activities of the Christchurch branch of- the New Zealand League for the Hard of Hearing and will be declared open on the evening of April 18. These rooms, pleasantly furnished and decorated, are in the top floor of the Press Company’s building in Cathedral square, and will provide a splendid centre for the members of the Christchurch branch. The equipment installed in the rooms provides for morning, afternoon, and evening lip-reading classes and for the social work which is so important a part of the activities of the branch. The furnishings include a number of chairs presented to the branch and designed so that they meet an important requirement in the training of the hard of hearing: that is, they provide for the maximum relaxation of the pupil taking the courses. Much significance is also attached* to the group-aid apparatus presented to the branch by one of its keenest supporters.. This is fitted to each of the chairs and is assisting materially in the work of the branch. The rooms, the furnishing of which has transformed one of the old machine rooms of ‘‘The Press,” also provide for an office for the branch. This is being pleasantly decorated and arranged, and is nicely appointed. A great deal of the work done in fixing up these rooms has come voluntarily from members, but the members of the executive have themselves played an important part. The rooms also include a kitchenette, which will have adequate equipment to ensure that incidental refreshments will be available. The officers of the branch are:—President; Mr John Montgomery; vicepresidents, Archbishop West-Watson, -Bishop Brodie, Dr. T. A. Mac Gibbon, Mr Justice Northcroft, Mrs Marmaduke Bethell, Miss Enid Hutchinson, Miss Ria MacAlister, Miss M. G. Havelaar; executive. Mesdames John Johnson,. A. A; Barlow, A.
