INTERCEPTED BY ARMED , MERCHANT CRUISER

TORONTO, April 7,

The-Canadian Minister lor the Navy (Mr Angus Macdonald) - disclosed today that a Canadian armed merchant cruiser had intercepted the two German ships Hermonthis and Muenchen in the Pacific Ocean, and that these ships, in the good German way, had scuttled themselves. . . Speaking to the Service Club, he said the incident had occurred not very long ago, but he could not give the date or the exact location. When the Canadian sailors found they were unable to extinguish the fires the vessels were. sunk. “They are now lying at the bottom of the Pacific,” said the Minister, “and while they are no good to us they are no good to Germany either.” The Hehnonthis and the Muenchen were .the two vessels which recently slipped out of Callao, in Peru, without clearances.
