The Canterbury West of England Society, and the West of \ England Women’s Association combined in the first whist drive of the season. Prizewinners were Mesdames F. C. Ailington, A. Easterbrook, Howell, A. Rhodes, Nola Cummins, and L E. Fox. The president (Mrs Hammitt) presented the prizes. Supper was served by the committee. At a meeting of the executive of the Canterbury (N.Z.) Travel Club, held yesterday morning, it was decided that the proceeds of a monster bridge party to be held in Beath's early in March should be divided between the Women’s Auxiliary of the Navy League and the Christchurch Guild of the British Sailors’ Society, to be used to provide comforts for men of the merchant service, and men on minesweepers. That there was much urgent work to be done by members was announced by Mrs J, G. L. Vernon, president of the Merivale Sub-centre of the Red Cross Society, at a meeting of the committee held at her home in Webb street yesterday morning. Mrs Vernon said that great quantities of goods were needed; the sub-centre had the necessary materials on hand and a very large band of workers was needed to make up the materials. It was decided that the annual meeting be held in St, Mary's schoolroom on February 17, when plans for future activities would be discussed. At the Coronation Hospital.
