JEWISH ARMY SOUGHT
PALESTINE LEADER IN AUCKLAND (FBESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, February 2. The great desire of Jews throughout the world to form their own army and fight in the Allied cause was emphasised by Mr David Ben-Gurion, who arrived from the United States by the California Clipper. Mr BenGurion is chairman of the Palestine executive of the Jewish Agency, and is on his way to Palestine. When he left London toward the end of last year, the British Government had agreed in principle to the establishment of a Jewish army. Only details remained to be completed. He hoped to hear any day that the scheme was to be put into effect. However, if further difficulties were met with, the Jewish Agency and others who advocated an army would continue to press for its formation. What was proposed was an arrriy composed of Jews from Palestine and from neutral countries throughout the world.
There were, thousands of men of Jewish race in many countries who wished to fight for two important reasons—first, to help Britain, and, second, to defeat Hitler.
