BUSES WILL CALL AT GERALDINE
. _— « ASSURANCE GIVEN BY SERVICE MANAGER
An assurance that New Zealand Railway Road Service buses travelling to'Christchurch in the evening will call at Geraldine to pick up and set down passengers whenever necessary, is contained in a letter received by Mr E. Undrill from Mr P. Taylor, Christchurch manager of the New Zealand Railway Road Services. Mr Taylor sent the letter in answer to the complaint of Geraldine businessmen that a passenger for Geraldine had had to walk from Orari. He said that he had made inquiries and found on this particular occasion there was a 29-seater vehicle on the run, and when the passenger telephoned the Timaru depot at 8.20 p.tn., he was informed that there was some doubt whether it would be possible to run this particularly big bus via Cain’s road on account of the reading conditions near Cooper’s Creek, The passenger had indicated his indifference whether he travelled to Orari or Geraldine, and on this account he was dropped at Orari. Had the passenger said that he wanted tj stop at Geraldine he would have been taken there, but he indicated his willingness to travel to Orari only. Mr Taylor said that the driver concerne 1 had spoken to this passenger a few days later and had been advised that no complaint had been lodged and that he had merely asked for information at Geraldine as he wished to make sure that the bus would travel through Geraldine to pick him up when he returned to Christchurch.
Mr Taylor said he had spoken to the driver and staff concerned and had impressed on them the necessity for travelling via Geraldine whenever traffic was offering for that town. The evening buses would run via the main road only when there was no passenger to be picked up or set down in the Geraldine district.
