ACCIDENTS
MAN INJURED IN TUNNEL
DEATH ON WAY TO
HOSPITAL
(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WAIROA, September 20. The lower hydro-electro development scheme at Piripaua, Waikaremoana, was the scene of a fatal accident at an early hour this morning. The victim was Charles Storey, a married man, who was engaged on the construction of a tunnel as foreman. Storey lived with his wife at Piripaua and has one son.
The accident occurred about 12.45 a.m. Storey was in charge of concreting operations in the tunnel. Although no one saw the accident, it appears that Storey stepped in front of a locomotive which was engaged in drawing trucks of concrete from the tunnel mouth to the face, where the concreting operations were in progress. Storey died while being conveyed to the Wairoa Hospital.
INJURED BY FALL
Alfred John Wise, aged 34, a married man, of 17 Forbes street, Sydenham, suffered concussion through a fall from a ladder when working at the Canterbury Freezing Works, Belfast, vesterday afternoon. He was annulled to the Christchurch Public Hospital. but is not in a serious condition. ______
