OBITUARY

MR T. M’INTOSH

Mr T. Mclntosh, of Le Eon’s Bay, who died at the Akaroa Hospital on Wednesday at the age of 83,' was born in Little Akaloa and was a son of Mr Henry Mclntosh and a nephew of “Sandy” Mclntosh, owner o' Menzies Bay, and originally known as “McIntosh Bay.” Mr Mclntosh, whose father was one of the original settler and owner of a sawmill at Little Akaloa, after leaving Little Akaloa went to Timaru and later to Christchurch. He finally settled in Le Bon’s Bay, where he was engaged in arming. He was a member of the now defunct Le Bon’s Bay Road Board, a director of the dairy company, and generally took a keen interest in most of ’.he activities not only in Le Bon’s Bay, but over the whole district. He was a keen footballer in his young days.

Mr Mclntosh married Miss Barker, «f Little Akaloa, and leaves a widow and three children: Mrs Grotty (Spreydon), Mr Jack Mclntosh (Christchurch), and Mr G. L. Mclntosh (Paua Bay). There are eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The funeral took place at Le Bon's Bay yesterday.

SPRINGSTON TENNIS CLUB

The annual meeting of the Springston Tennis Club was held in the Springston Hall. Mr J. Marshall presided. The balance-sheet, showing a credit balance of £l2 8s l£d, was adopted. AKAROA HIGH SCHOOL HARRIER RACE

The annual harrier race from the Kaik to Akaroa, by the pupils of the Akaroa District High School, took place on Thursday afternoon. Donald Williamson, aged nine years, and with a handicap of 4J, minutes, was the winner of the Oinako cup, given by Mr E. X. Le Lievre. Rodney Weir and Stanley Phillips were equal, second. The fastest time was secured by Stewart Erikson, who covered the 3J mile course in 21min 15sec. The record for the course is 18min 55sec, secured by R. Le Lievre in 1935, the first year the race was won.

At the conclusion of the race at the Akaroa Post Office, the Mayor, Mr F. Davis, presented the cup to the winner, together with a miniature presented by Mr A. M. Helps. He also presented other prizes given by memmers of the school committee.

WAIAU CROQUET CLUB

The annual meeting of the Waiau Croquet Club was well attended, and the balance-sheet showed a satisfactory credit. The following officers were elected:—Patroness, Mrs H. Dam-pier-Crossley; president, Mrs J. O. Davies; vice-presidents, Mesdames H. Lunn, D. C. Macfarlane, A. H. Baker, J. L. Macfarlane, Miss Brown, and Miss Anderson: club captain, Mrs T. H. Belton; secretary and treasurer. Mrs F. McKie: committee, Mesdames J. Me. Kie. J. Casserley, C. Higgins, H. Rogers, F. David, and J. Muir; green supervisor, Mr J. H. McKie; auditor, Mr F. David.

Hororata—The H. Oliver A grade challenge cup was won by R. Oliver, the B grade Tisdall challenge cup by D. O'Callaghan. the A grade handicap trophy by J. R. Thorne, and the B grade handicap trophy by R. White.
