However, he will probably apply for a licence as soon as he returns. and do some further riding in the Dominion.

A Popular Relaxation The increases in the totalisalor turnovers at both the Ashburton and Gernldine meetings have no doub*. been unexpected in the face of prevailing conditions, and the same position prevails in regard to recent North Island meetings, but it has to be pointed out that last year the September meetings were held hist after the outbreak of war, and after the first impositimi of petrol restrictions, and this in a measure discounts the substantial increases in investments recorded. Still, there has been no sudden circulation of new money, and the figures are a plain indication that people are seeking on the racecourses escape from the strain of war bulletins. At Marton To-day

Several- of the two year-olds in the Juvenile Handicap at Marton to-day raced at the Wanganui meeting, but there are some fresh horses. Polano is a half-brother by Phaleron Bay to , Stencil. Prince Plato, In ihe same event, led the parade home recently at New Plymouth. He is a well-grown gelding by Plato from Wahine Nui a sister to Royal Parade and half-sister to Childstudy, being by Chief Ruler from’the King Mark mare, Paoanui. High Tone is a half-sister by Phaleron Bay to Grateful. She was unplaced at Wanganui. Foreign Coin was second in the juveniles in their two furlong sprint at Awapuni on the first day of the Wanganui meeting, but did not contest the Debutante Stakes. She is by Lackham from Foreign Queen, and is very like her dam. Bayadeer, who led the Wanganui parade home, failed to jump out in the Debutante Stakes, as also did Royce. and both are iikely to do better. Another newcomer is Sandy Bay. a brown colt by Phaleron Bay from Fillette. Par Avion will carry the same colours as Pearl of Asia. He is a brown colt by Ring-master-from Damaris. Imperium is a bay gelding by Colossus from Tripping, so is a brother to the Melbourne winner Dannevirke. and to Poutatau. He will carry the colours of Messrs H. S. Cornfoot and R. J. Harper.
