NEW INTERMEDIATE SCHOOLS
PROVISION FOR FUTURE
SITES The Canterbury Education Board has been asked by the Minister for Education, the Hon. H. G. R. Mason, to investigate the likely needs which might arise in the city for additional intermediate schools. This was reported to the meeting of the board yesterday, in a statement detailing the results of the Minister’s recent visit to city schools. s The report stated;— The Minister said that it was his policy to provide intermediate schools in suitable situations. Where it was proposed to add to or remodel schools which would become contributing schools Mr Mason intimated that it was better to build intermediate schools than to increase the accommodation in existing primary schools. The Minister asked that the board should investigate the position with regard to future intermediate schools in Christchurch and, submit recommendations to the department covering the purchase of suitable sites in such districts as the board considers intermediate schools will be required.
