OFFICIAL FORECASTS [THE PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON, August 27. The weather forecast for Canterbury, issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Moderate northerly to westerly winds, freshening at times and possibly changing to south-westerly bv evening; mainly fair and mild in the plains, but further rain in the ranges. Seas slight to moderate. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Moderate to fresh north-westerly winds, changing to south-westerly possibly by evening. Weather unsettled, with intermittent rain. Moderate temperatures. Rough seas. dominion The Dominion forecast is:— Weather mainly fair and mild in eastern and northern districts, intermittent rain in Westland, and showers extending occasionally up the West Coast as far as the Kin: j Country and to Otago and Southland. Pressure remains high to the cast and north, while the firs! , of a scries of westerly depressions has advanced from the south Tasman Sea on to the South Island. Winds —Moderate to strong and at times squally northerly to westerly winds later tending to south-westerly in the far south. . Seas (New Zealand waters) —Rough south of Kawhia and about Cook and Foveaux Straits; moderate elsewhere. Eastern Tasman Sea —North-west to west winds with a south-westerly change later in the southern portion; force moderate in the north with moderate seas, strong in the south with rough seas.
