£430,000 PROVIDED IN ESTIMATES ESTABLISHMENT AND WORKING EXPENSES [From Our Parliamentary Reporter.! WELLINGTON, July 31. ■ The sum of £430,000 is provided in the Supplementary Estimates introduced into the House of Representatives to-night for the establishment of a linen flax industry in the South Island. The amount for land, works, and machinery is set down at £214,000, and working expenses are estimated at , £261,000. The explanation is made that the total cost of the present developmental proposals is £275.000. and that credits from the sale of fibre- and seed are not expected until the financial year 194142. The individual items for lands, works, and machinery arc;— Land acquisition. £4000: factory buildings and tanks, £80.000: factory machinery and Installation. £20,000; field machinery and vehicles. £50,000; housing. £20,000; freight, mats-'i'ds, and preliminary expenses, £40,000. The working expenses are sot out as follow?; Wages. £21.000: purchase and harvesting of seed and straw, £200.(100; materials, repairs, compensation, etc., £40,000.
