AIR FORCE QUEEN CARNIVAL
♦_ — PROGRESS RESULTS ANNOUNCED Keen public interest is being taken in the progress of the Air Force queen carnival in the city in aid of comforts for airmen. Further progress results last' evening showed that Miss Molly O'Callaghan (Simpson and Williams) had taken the lead, closely followed by Miss Norma Murray (Lane, Walker, and Rudkin, Ltd.), Miss Joan Clements (Woolworths, Ltd.), and Miss Irene Marshall (McKenzie’s, Ltd., High street). . Frequent changes in the fortunes of the 12 candidates have taken place. Miss O’Callaghan and Miss Murray previously occupied third and fourth places respectively. A number of private functions will be held and the final announcement of the winner, and crowning ceremony will take place at a community singing session in the Civic Theatre on Friday, August 16. . The competing queens are being supported by their, own staff activities, and the carnival is confined to Christchurch only. No assistance is being accepted by firms from branches elsewhere in New Zealand. There win be no direct appeal to the public and no street collection.
