MEXICO’S ARMED FORCES
* FOURFOLD INCREASE PLANNED * (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION— COPIKXOBT.) (Received June 21, 7 p.m.) WASHINGTON, June 20. It is reliably stated that the Presi-' dent of Mexico (General Cardenas) has approved the quadrupling of the Mexican armed forces, including the purchase of six United States destroyers. He added that the United States was making available credits for this purpose exceeding 10,000,000 dollars. The United States Assistant-Secre-tary of State (Mr Sumner Welles) said that the United States would consider in a friendly manner the request from Mexico for credits and other assistance for defence.
