Purchase of “Tommy” Gums.—Steps have been taken to purchase from the United States ,a large number of Thompson sub-machine guns, known as “Tommy” guns, there available, and also to manufacture them in Britain. Steps, said the Minister for Supply (Mr Herbert Morrison), were, also being taken to manufacture on an extensive scale small hand-grenades for use against invaders from the air, and also heavy hand-grenades with short timefuses for use against tanks.—Rugby, June 19. ’■
