The Trentham Meeting Stands on the Trentham racecourse are at present occupied as a military hospital for soldiers sufi fluenza. It is expected that the stands will be freed in time for next month s meeting of the Wellington Racing Club. It is expected, too, that training hours will be extended in the week before fhp meeting, and that there will he ample opportunity for the schooling of jumpers engaged at thb fixture. The Aintree Winner It is not known what Lord Stalbridge paid for the Liverpool Grand National winner Bogskar, but it could not have been a big sum. After producing Bogskar, his dam, Irish Spring, was sold for 9gns, and three others of her progeny realised 21gns, 35gns, and 17gns respectively. Werwolf, sire of Bogskar, went for 200gns. That is surprising, as Werwolf is by Hurry On (sire of Call Boy,. Coronach, Captain Cuttle, Hunting Song, and Lord Warden) and his half-sister, Cinna, is the dam Pere. A Coincidence It is interesting to note that Musket .came out to New Zealand under much the same conditions that Coronach will be imported. Musket is generally supposed to have obtained his name from the fact that Lord Glasgow condemned him to be shot when he failed to show a satisfactory trial as a two-year-old. ’Musket might also have received his name from the fact that Brown Bess, the name of his dam, was also the pet name of the musket used in the Peninsula Wars. His sire was Toxophilite (an archer), so that sire and dam also suggest Musket’s name. It was Lord Glasgow’s custom to shoot all his two-year-olds that did not show promise. Musket could not be sold, and this has been the case with Coronach. ASHBURTON COUNTY RACING CLUB CREDIT BALANCE OF £4 A credit balance of £4 was shown in the annual balance-sheet of the Ashburton County Racing Club at the annual meeting last evening. Mr E. J.
