Concern at the. increasing use of margarine in New Zealand was expressed at a meeting of the Manawatu branch of the National Council of Women. Will the women of the Dominion think of the repercussions and count the cost? asked Mrs J. Harris, of Turakina, who was in. the chair. She said that the women of New Zea r land held 85 per cent of the purchasing power in their hands and they should be made aware of, the- effect an 'increasing use of margarine would have on the butter industry. Also, they should get at the root of the trouble and find out why butter was so expensive. The comment that the majority of honorary rangers were of neither use nor ornament was made by the ranger for the Auckland Acclimatisation Society’s' district, Mr 1 J. 1 Dobson, at. a meeting of the council 'of the society when a number of names came up for consideration. The ranger; said he could not recall a single instance, of an honorary ranger reporting an offence during the last season.
