PROPOSED MEMORIAL TO MR SAVAGE
IPBESB ASSOCIATION TBLEGEAM.) WELLINGTON. April 23. A tribute to the memory of Mr Savage was paid by the Prime Minister (the Hon. P. Fraser) when he referred in' an address last night to a proposal to erect a national memorial, to his predecessor. Mr Savage was mourned, said Mr Fraser, wherever social progress was valued and democracy • treasured, and his name \ ould live in the history of New Zealand and humanity in general: n . . An invitation had been issued to the people of New Zealand to unite in erecting a national memorial to Mr Savage’s life and work at his last resting place at Bastion Point, Auckland. The invitation was by no means a party one. and was extended to everyone. It was felt that the memorial should be in every sense a people’s memorial, symbolising the esteem and regard of all the people of New Zealand. ■
