CHEVIOT COUNTY COUNCIL
The monthly meeting of the Cheviot County Council was held recently, Cr. J. Paton presiding.. Others present were Crs. D. McLaren, M. C. Hyde, J. F. Macfarlane, N. R. Wilkinson, and W. L. Foster. Reference was made to the death of the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage and a motion of sympathy was passed with the Government. • The chairman was appointed the council’s representative on the Patriotic Fund in. place of Mr T, Stevenson, who has resigned because of illness. The clerk (Mr W. Drew) presented the balance-sheet, which showed that 98.4 per cent, of the rates had been paid before the 10 per cent, penalty had been imposed, compared with 98.8 per cent, in 1939. A letter was received from the Medical Officer of Health, Dr. T. Fletcher Telford, requesting the council’s co-operation in removing rats and mice which invade grain sheds and all places where food is stored at this time of the year. Accounts amounting to £558 19s lud were passed for payment.
