Mrs Leslie Fleming (Avqnside), who has been spending a holiday at Picton, has returned to Christchurch. Mr and Mrs F. W. Merrin (“Ballinluig,” Riccarton) are visitors to Akaroa fpr the centennial celebrations. 1 Miss Kathleen Moore (Wellington), who is a visitor to .Christchurch for the Dominion conference of the National Council of Women, will leave towards the end of the week to spend a few days at Methven before returning north. Miss L, Clark (Fendaltqn) has returned home after a holiday spent in the North Island. Mr and Mrs Tyndall Harman (Fendalton) were visitors to Dunedin for the Ross-Tait wedding, which took place on Saturday night. The bride, formerly Miss Elizabeth Tait, and her sister, Miss Alison Tait, arrived in Dunedin from Sydney on Friday. Mrs W. V. Sarelius (Sumner) will leave for Wellington to-morrow night. The lady editor of “The Press” gratefully acknowledges a donation for the Esther Glen Memorial fund from Mrs W. T, Thompson, Port Hills road, Heathcote. Mrs T. J. McLauchlan, of Lismore, has returned to Ashburton after attending the Akaroa centennial celebrations. Members of the executive of the Canterbury Association of the Federation of University Women were the guests of Mrs W. H. Cocker (Auckland), Dominion president of the New Zealand Federation of University Women, at an afternoon tea party held in Heath’s grey room yesterday. The gymkhana which is being held on the Show Grounds next Saturday in aid of the Sick and Wounded Fund will begin at 11.30. Admission charges will be Is for adults, 6d for children, and 6d for cars. At the Seamen’s Institute, Lyttelton, last night, more than 100 sailors were entertained by two members of Hay’s concert party—Messrs J. Boughen and Cyril Smith—who provided an entertaining and varied programme of music, conjuring, moving pictures, and items by marionettes. Supper was served by members of the Christchurch guild of the British Sailors’ Society—Mrs H. T. J. Thacker (president), Lady Acland, and Miss M. Enright. Mrs R. S. Goodman (Timaru) has returned from a visit to Wellington. Mrs T. E. Holdgate (Timaru) is a visitor to Christchurch for the Dominion conference of the National Council of Women. Miss Penelope Nolan (Gisborne), who was the guest of Mrs C. L. Orbell (Pentlow), has left to stay with Mrs C. Kain, Orari. Mrs Bruce Baxter (Timaru) is visiting Christchurch. Mrs F. G. M. Raymond (Timaru) has left to accompany her mother, Mrs Webb (Christchurch), on a visit to Auckland. The monthly meeting of the Christchurch High School Old Girls’ Association, held last evening, was well attended anS members had the pleasure of hearing two travel talks illustrated by lantern slides. Miss A. M. Burns spoke of her cycling trip through Denmark, Sweden and Russia, and Miss M. Watson told of her visit to Holland, Switzerland and Great Britain.
