DEDICATION AT STEWART
WELLINGTON PROVINCIAL • MEMORIAL i SITE OF HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE (PSXSS ISSOCIATIOB TUT.mma.) FEILDING, April. 20. To-day the Wellington Provincial Centennial memorial at Stewart was ceremonially unveiled. The site is an eminence in the Manawatu County ■ and is associated with Maori history. It is also of historic interest to the pakeha. It is roughly at the centre of the Wellington Province, and commands a view of almost the whole province. . The ceremony was presided over by Mr T. L. Seddon, Mayor of Feilding, and chairman of the Centennial Zone Committee. Addresses were given by Mr Seddon, Mr J. Linklater (chairman of the Memorial Committee), Mr W. E. Barber (chairman of the Manawatu County), and the Hon. J. C. Cobbe (M.P. for Manawatu). The Rev. P. H. Leonare, a Maori minister, read a passage from Scripture, the Rev, J. Hubbard (Presbyterian), of Palmerston North, offered the dedication prayer, and the Ven. Archdeacon Petrie the Benediction. Mr Cobbe performed the unveiling ceremony. The memorial is in the form of a shrine of concrete with a look-out parapet from which a magnificent view is obtained. The cost was about £IOOO. A „ Mr W. J. Croucher, president of the Sandon Old Boys’ Associatiw, also unveiled a memorial which is .to the pioneers of the Sandon district. More than 1000 were present, including practically the whole of the pioneers of the district who still survive. .
