WINTER TOURNAMENT TO OPEN RECORD ENTRIES RECEIVED [By BULLSEYEJ Miniature rifle shooting In Christchurch will open officially next week, when all clubs will begin matches In the winter tournament conducted by the Christchurch Miniature Rifle Association. A splendid entry has been received, and the coming season shows promise of being the most successful In the history of the association. , Twenty-six clubs have affiliated to the Christchurch Association, and In all 46 teams will be competing. 12 in the senior grade, 10 in the junior grade, 12 In the president’s A,grade, and 12 In the president’s B grade. Senior teams will consist of 10 men, as In former years, all scores to count. In all grades lower than senior, teams shall consist of 10 men, with the eight highest scores comprising the , team’s total. The individual shooting conditions applicable to all grades are as follows: One compulsory slghter on centre bull (not to count) and seven counting shots, making a possible total of 70. The Increasing popularity, of the sport is shown by the fact that two new clubs have affiliated this season to the Christchurch Miniature Rifle Association. These are the M.E.D and. the Booth. Club’s Annual Meeting The second annual meeting of the Booth, Macdonald and Company’s Miniature Rifle Club was held In the club rooms recently. Mr F. Evans presided. The club has decided to enter two teams In the Christchurch Miniature Rifle Association’s winter tournament matches, one in the president’s A grade and one. In the president's B grade. Mr G. Naylor, the honorary coach to the club, is a former New Zealand champion. Celtic Ladies’ Club The following are the leading scores recorded at the weekly shoot of the Celtic Ladies’ Miniature Rifle Club: —Mrs Caldwell 60, Miss O. Stewart 69. Mrs Whitaker 66, Miss N. Holland 67, Miss H. Wheller 67, Miss M. Trewern 67, Miss P. Whitaker 67, Mrs Jackson 67, Mrs Crooks 67. B.S.A. Challenge Shield Victoria appears to have a splendid chance of repeating its success of last year in winning the B.S.A. (small-bore) challenge shield. With an aggregate of 1983 points, the Victorian team, with one match still to fire, has a 34 points lead from New South Wales (1949) and Queensland (1944). , New Members The increasing popularity of the sport among the young women of the city is shown by the number of new members who have joined the Celtic Ladies’ Club, All these members are very keen, and with sound coaching.should develop into first-class shots. The club has been further strengthened this year by Mrs Caldwell, a prominent member of the New Brighton Ladies’ Club, who has transferred to the city.
