OPENED - The Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association’s winter competition for men began in dull weather at Wilding Park, the'first round of matches In berth sections. being played cm the hard courts. Wins were secured . by > Elmwood, Addington, and Woolston in the first section, and by. Addington, North Linwood, and New Brighton In the second section. Results were as follows: FIRST SECTION Elmwood v. Cathedral Singles—J. T. M. Fisher beat D, Martin, 6-3, 6-2; G. Atkinson lost to Father O’Gor--man, 6-3, 1-6, 4-6; W. P. Jones beat A.
