BOAT CAPSIZES IN DEEP WATER COMPANION REACHES LAND Cpebss association telegsam.) TIMARU, March 31. Through the capsize of a small boat on Saltwater creek this afternoon John David Caswell, aged iO. lost his life. He and another boy were playing in the boat at a spot where the water was fairly deep. The second boy, aged 11, reached the bank, but Caswell’s body was not recovered until more than an hour later. THREE PERSONS INJURED MOTOR-CAR OVERTURNS NEAR METHVEN Three persons were\ injured, one seriously, when a motor-car in which they were travelling overturned on a road near Methven last evening. The injured were:—f Eric Lamb, Ashburton, laceration of the skull and shock. \ Condition serious. ; Warren Jones, aged 2h, of Ashburton, concussion and shock. I “ WOUND IN FqOT • "7” v.,.- •- ■*’* MAN INJURED WHILE SHOOTING Suffering from a gun-shot wound in his right foot, Victor M. Hooper, aged 32, of 22 Scott street, Sydenham, was admitted on Saturday to the Christchurch Hospital, where his injured foot was later amputated. Hooper, who has an artificial left leg, was shooting near the Bottle Lake Hospital, and his gun is believed to have discharged as he was getting through a fence. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance, his condition last evening being reported as improving. YOUNG MAN GRAVELY INJURED (From Our Own Reporter.) REEFTON, March 30. Rex Schwass, aged 18, son of Mr and Mrs Schwass, of Rotokohu, suffered serious injuries on Thursday afternoon when he fell from a height on to a stake, which penetrated his body from the back. He was taken to Reefton Hospital and operated on. His condition yesterday was reported to be critical. i AUCKLAND BUSHMAN’S DEATH (PEESS ASSOCIATION TELEQHAM.) AUCKLAND, March 30. John Baker, a half-caste Maori, who was struck by a falling , tree while working in the bush on Great farrier Island yesterday, died on a launch when being brought to Auckland early this morning. *
