CHRISTCHURCH BRANCH At the monthly meeting of the Christchurch branch, of the Plunket Society it was reported that the garden party and tennis tournament organised by the central sub-committee had realised £27. The D.I.C. has agreed to stage a, mannequin parade this month to augment the society’s funds. Final arrangements were made for the opening of the additions at the Lady King Karitane Hospital this week. Members of the committee were asked to act as hostesses and help the house committee in serving tea to visitors. For the hospital ,the matron reported that 15 babies had been admitted, 20 discharged, and 17 were in residence. Nine mothers had been admitted to the mothercraft cottage and 12 discharged. The following donations and gifts were*' gratefully received: —Ellesmere cub-branch, £10; Shirley-Richmond sub-branch, £1; two cases of pears, Mrs Nell; an oak tray, Mrs Fairhurst; and an electric radiator from Urlwin’s, Ltd. For the Plunket Rooms, Nurse Allan reported as follows: —Pre-natal section: Expectant mothers interviewed for the first time, 37; return visits, 139; cases under observation, 125. Post-natal section: New cases, 175; visits to homes. 491. Visits to rooms: Suburban, 1660 adults, 1668 babies; central, 1299 adults, 777 babies. Pre-school children; New cases, 28; pre-school children under supervision, 1042. Gifts of clothing had been gratefully received from Mrs Bolam, Mrs Waromersley, Mrs Cooney, and a goldfish bowl from Mr Watkinson.
