The" most important trap-shooting event' ever held in. New Zealand- was the -1940 Southern Hemisphere single:rise clay target championship, decided to-rday at the Centennial trapshootiiig tournament of <the New Zealand Gun Clubs* Association. It was a 50 target event, aIL off *lB yards. In which 74 shooters competed. The .winner was C. Webber (Morrinsville), who made a perfect score, of 50. The runrier-*ip,-M. Pratt (Otorohanga),-broke 49. There were no scores of 48, but 47 targets were broken by W. Oates (Tokomaru Bay), J. Mills (Hastings), and I. G. Watkins (Rahgiora). The next best, with 46, were A.' N., Turner (Christchurch). C. E. Thqmasen (Waitakururu), G. Bretherton:\(Masterton),and H. ' In presenting the trophies the Minister lor Internal Affairs (the Hon. W. E. Parry) congratulated Webber on a performance. He said that Pratt'was one of the mast consistent shots in New Zealand, and a good sportsman. . . . . - The £1 sweepstake attracted 45 competitors. - The conditions provided for 15 targets from handicap marks _>on the five track 'system. Possibles were" broken by E. and C. E.Brbwn (Diamond' Harbour), i Each . received v £ls ,6s cash. J. Dobson (Hamilton), H. Grennell (Port Levy), -L. Smith (Hutt), H. Carter (Crtorohanga), and A. Walker (Hawera), each ' broke 14, and divided £5 Ss among them.
