MANY NEW REGISTRATIONS SINCE HOLIDAYS

. Stimulated r by an, intensive, campaign in the city and suburbs, recruiting for the Special. Military Force, has met with considerable success over the last few days; Recruits who enlisted _ at the central ■ egistration office in . Cambridge - terrace arid- the various bureaux in the city and suburbs on December 30, January 1, and yesterday totalled, 64. a figure which has given the authorities cause for gratification. Fifty, new recruits had been enrolled up to the evening of Monday. January 1, a figure well up to the expectations of those.'undertaking the campaign. More than one-third of these men gave their names in at one or other of the special recruiting bureaux. Yesterday registrations at all bureaux were 35, one of the best daily totals for some time. T' enty-one names were taken at the depot in Cathedral square, a result which pleased the registration officials. This depot had its best recruiting day to date. - With very few except ns the ,recruits were' young single men, it was stated. No special rally was held yesterday in the recruiting campaign. Eight men were registered at the central • depot. A , medical board will sit to-day. when 60 men will be examined. Four boards will sit to-morrow, the number already warned, to appear for examination being about 80. A board will sit at Timaru at 9 a.m. to-morrow, when there are 30 men to be . examined, and 14 men are to be examined when a board sits "at Ashburton at 7 p.m. As the men are examined, those •passed fit will be immediately posted to units, so that they can be given the necessary week’s notice before being sent to camps, where they are due on January 12. • ■ ■ Registrations since noon on Saturday are as follows:---Adlam.
