OFFICIAL FORECASTS [THE PRESS Special Service.! WELLINGTON, December 14. The weather forecast for Canterbury issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time ol Issue, is as follows: Moderate northerly winds, freshening somewhat. Weather mainly line and mild, but -a possibility of a south-westerly change later with scattered showers. Seas slight to moderate. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Fresh north-west winds, later changing to south-west. Weather unsettled with rain at times. Seas rather rough to rough. DOMINION

The forecast for the Dominion is:— Unsettled in the western and far southern portions of the South Island with rain at times. Otherwise fair to cloudy and mild, but scattered showers later extending to Wellington and Taranaki. Pressure continues relatively high in the north, but has fallen in the south with the approach of a depression. Winds—Variable in the northern half of the North Island but elsewhere directions between north and west prevailing. Force, strong in some exposed positions south of Cook Strait, otherwise light to moderate. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rather rough to rough south of Cape Egmont and about Cook and Foveaux Straits. Slight to moderate elsewhere. Eastern Tasman Sea—Light to moderate and variable winds in the northern portion and strong northerlies in the southern, changing later to southwesterly. Seas slight in the north, rough in the south.

CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather was fine but overcast at times in Christchurch yesterday. There was a fresh breeze from the north-east. The maximum temperature was 67.9 degrees At 1 o’clock this morning the sky was clear and there was a light north-west wind. The barometer at 5 p.m. was falling slightly at 29.86 inches (1611 millibars). Wellington—Yesterday was overcast in the morning, with a slight northerly wind. The afternoon was cloudy, and the wind changed to a strong, gusty northwesterly. The maximum temperature was 62 6 degrees. At 6 p.m. the barometer was at 1005.2 (29.68 Inches), and the temperature 58 degrees. Dunedin—The sky was dull and overcast yesterday, with a light breeze from the south. A few light showers fell.
