GORE TROTTING CLUB

ACCEPTANCES (run xasocixTiott rECßosxu.i / GORE,' December 14. The following are the acceptances for the Gore Trotting Club’s meeting on December 26: 12.30 p.m CROYDON HANDICAP (in saddle), of

WAIKOUAITI RACING CLUB

HANDICAPS Handicaps for the Waikouaiti Racing Club’s annual meeting 'have been declared as follows:

TURF GOSSIP

Reminders Nominations for the Greymouth Jockey Club’s summer meeting will close at 9 p.m. to-morrow. Nominations for the Reef ton Jockey Club’s midsummer meeting will' close at 9 p.m. to-morrow. Acceptances for the Manawatu and Auckland meetings close to-day. Popular Picnic Programme The Hurunui Turf Club’s annual nonr totalisator meeting, to be held to-mor-row, promises to be one of the most successful in the history of the club. The fields will not only be larger than ever previously, but several good class horses will be engaged. Hiccarton stables will be represented by a team including Skyrena, Philibun, Lady Middleham, Caretaker, Garonne, and In the Dark, and several of the local horsemen will make the trip. There would probably have been more horses, especially maidens, from Riccarton, but successes for them would mean their ineligibility for the maiden events on the West Coast circuit. These events at both Hokitika and Greymouth are for horses that at time of starting have not won an advertised race. If the conditions had been extended to mean an advertised race at a totalisator meeting, winners at Hurunui would not have come under the ban. Riding at Waipa Meeting L. "J. Ellis left for the North Island last .evening, and will be riding at Te Awamutu to-morrow, his mounts including Floodtide, Tosh, Te Hai, and Silver Cloud. Returned Home Great Legion, who has been trained by E. Parker since the New Zealand Cup meeting, and earned place money in the two races he has contested under his charge, was returned this week to his owner-trainer, G. W. New, of Awapuni, where he will race at Christmas. Recent Winner in Melbourne Night Raid has sired another very promising stayer in the recent Australian winner. Companion, who beat a big field at Moonee Valley recently over a mile and a quarter. Companion, who was bred at Elderslie and sold in Sydney as a yearling for 500 guineas to Mr J. P. Trihey, the owner and trainer of Regular Bachelor, has been given every chance to develop, and the patient policy which has been pursued with him has borne fruit. He is a very highly bred horse, being out of the imported mare Graciosa, a daughter of Gay Crusader, and Mistrella, the grand-dam of the dual Ascot Gold Cup winner, Trimdon. His sire, Night Raid, has only one representative in the coming yearing sale catalogue, this being a particularly good-looking colt out of Cupid’s Bow, by imported Archery, closely related to a good Australian wir ler in Art, who besides winning other good races was successful in the» Moonee Valley Gold Cup. The Cupid’s Bow colt is bred to be a genuine stayer, as he is by a proved

staying sire from a mare whose blood lines in Tracery, Musket, Positano, Goldsborough, and Fisherman all point to success in this direction. At Awapuni

It is intended that Clarion Call should contest the hurdle races at the Auckland meeting, and J. Mcßae has been engaged to ride him. Clarion Call has been working well at Awapuni. Disdain, one of the favourites for the Railway Handicap, in which she will be ridden by L. J.' Ellis, has been showing gpod form on the tracks at Awapuni. In a recent gallop she ranseven furlongs on a deep plough track in Imin 31sec, breaking 50sec for the first half-mile. Not Two-milcrs The Limonds have not shown themselves • real two-milersf though they have included such fine middle-dis-tance horses as Limerick, Commendation, Ammon Ra, Veilmond, Agrion, Honour. Lady Pam, Theo, Waikare, Limarch, and others, none of whom ever won at two miles. Birthday Boy is one who might go the longest distance. Birthday Boy is very stoutly bred on his distaff side, being out of the Lucullus mare Queen March, the dam of Limarch. King March, and Gay Marigold, and King March was generally conceded at the time to have been unlucky not to have won the Auckland Cup in which he finished second to Gold Trail. Birthday Boy this season has won ,at 11 furlongs in the King George Handicap at Avondale, and was beaten by a neck by Royevrus in the Mitchelson Cup, one mile and a half.
