“TOO MANY ON PUBLIC WORKS”
[THE PRESS Special Service.] DUNEDIN, November 24. “If we are going to increase our production of goods of which the people have not sufficient at present it is absolutely necessary that more of our young men should be trained in the skilled trades,” said Dr. D. G. McMillan, M.P. for Dunedin West, when speaking at a meeting which he called to set up a consumers’ organisation. “Many men who should be in skilled trades are on public works,” said Dr. McMillan. “It is my opinion that every man under 40 should be taken off public works and taught some skilled trade, as we are in urgent need of more skilled labour.”
