BRITISH NOTE DELIVERED

German Cabinet To Meet CONSIDERATION OF PROPOSALS ''{UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.) (Received August 31, 2 p.m.) LONDON, August 30. It has been officially announced in London that the British Note in reply to Herr Hitler was dispatched to Berlin to-night through the normal diplomatic channels. France and Poland were informed of the nature of the note. Authoritative quarters in London state that the reply to . Herr Hitler is such that a further communication from the Fuehrer is likely. A message from Berlin states that Herr Hitler assembled the German Cabinet at the Chancellery to-night. Members of the Reichstag have been ordered to be ready to assemble at a moment’s notice. 1 A semi-official statement says that 'the Polish action in calling up further reservists has finally precipitated a measure of danger. It is added that Warsaw must recognise that it is the consequence of . the blank cheque from England which will hardly contribute to direct negotiations. The Polish communique calling up more men to the colours declares: “The Reich has started an aggressive policy against Poland. The open and continuous claims of Germany upon Polish territory leave no doubt that Poland is endangered. Poland has accepted- all efforts at conciliatory action, made either by high personages or Governments friendly to Poland, but they have brought no response from the Reich.” A Polish Foreign Office spokesman, commenting on Herr Hitler’s Note to Britain, said it afforded no settlement of the situation. German Firmness Doubted For the first time for many months, the censorship has relaxed sufficiently for the Hungarian newspapers to express clear doubts regarding Germany’s firmness in the face of British warnings, states a message from Budapest. Both thfe Government paper and the Roman Catholic organ report “a sensational, weakening of Germany’s demands” and the possibility that Germany would be" content if Danzig and the corridor were put under international control by the Great Powers. Information reaching Switzerland reveals ■ an extreme depression of public opinion in Germany, and even states that some German garrison regiments have mutinied. Workers are agitating for'the release of their comrades from concentration camps. Many shops are closing in the towns and villages. The German paper “Frankfurter Zeitung,” however, states that the German demand for Danzig and the corridor is an indispensable prereouisite in all efforts aiming at a solid basis for European peace. The Rome radio broadcast a statement in English declaring that Berlin expects the negotiations to last for at least two more days. According to a message from Rome the Government expects Sunday to be zero hour in the crisis. - ITALY PREPARES LONDON, August 30. The Rome correspondent of the Associated Press of Great Britain states that cafes, dance halls, and other places of amusement,in Rome .have been . ordered' to close at 11 p.m., beginning on September 3, after which the capital will be darkened. Electric signs, after to-night, are forbidden. .- > Sunday has also-been fixed for the mobilisation of two new military classes, and for the ban on private cars. These instructions are engendered in the belief that the Government expects Sunday to be the zero hour in the crisis. - People living in Italian cities arid big towns near... the French frontier have beeri asked to evacuate. The Italian newspapers are now limited to six pages.
