WAIMAKARIRI HARBOUR BOARD

EFFECT OF RECENT HEAVY SEAS At the monthly meeting of the Waimakariri Harbour Board, the chairman of the harbour committee (Mr R. F. Joyce) reported that recent heavy seas had brokep over the south spit, washing down one of the bar beacons. The north spit from the concrete blocks to the bar had been lowered, but the position of the bar remained unaltered. The changes had resulted in higher tides at Kaiapoi. Two new beacons had been erected in line with the bar channel. The dredge portion had been hauled up for repairs, and a further examination would be necessary before the work was started.

Good progress was being made with the building of the two new mooring pontoons, and he suggested that one be placed at each end of the present landing. The chairman (Mr J. A. Mealings) presided. The report was adopted, and the committee’s recommendation about the placing of the two new mooring pontoons was agreed to. A grant of £1 Is was made to the Canterbury Progress League. The chairman of the works committee reported that satisfactory progress was being made with the cutting of willows and the removal of stumps from the board’s reserve 'in Raven street

It was decided that Mr R. F. Joyce be appointed to represent the board
