OFFICIAL FORECASTS LTHB PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON, August 22. The weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Light to moderate but freshening north-easterly wind. Weather mainly fair to cloudy, but in the morning low cloud and fog prob- ‘ able in places and possibly some drizzle. Temperatures moderate. Sea slight to moderate. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Moderate but freshening northeasterly to northerly winds. Weather cloudy and unsettled with rain developing. Temperatures mild. Sea moderate, but rising. DOMINION The forecast for the Dominion is:— Some scattered rain or drizzle possible in most districts. Otherwise mainly fair to cloudy. In the morning low cloud or fog possible on the east coast of the South Island. Unsettled conditions gradu- . ally developing in the south and west. Temperatures milder. Pressure is relatively low and uniform over New Zealand. A very deep depression situated immediately to the east of Tasmania is moving - slowly in a south-easterly direction. Winds—North-westerly to northerly predominating over the North Island. North-easterly over .the South. Force, light to moderate, but gradually freshening in the south. Seas (New Zealand waters)— Slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea—Light to moderate north-westerly winds and slight seas in the northern portion. Freshening north-easterly winds. Moderate but rising seas in the southern portion. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER * The weather in Christchurch yesterday was fine but dull. A very light northerly wind in the morning freshened to a north-easterly breeze during the afternoon. The maximum temperature during the day was 53.3 degrees. At 1 o’clock this morning the sky was cloudy and there was a strong easterly wind. The temperature was 48 degrees, and the barometer, at 29.62 inches, was falling slowly. IN OTHER PLACES Auckland—Conditions were generally fine yesterday, with a light northerly wind. The maximurtv temperature was 57 degrees. The barometer rose slightly, the reading at 5 p.m. being 29.50 inches (999 millibars). a Wellington—Yesterday was mild and sunny with a light north-westerly wind which dropped during the afternoon. The maximum temperature was 59.5 degrees. At 6 p.m. the temperature was 48.8 degrees and the barometer at 999.8 millibars.

Dunedin—The sky was overcast yesterday and there was a light breeze from the north-east. The temperature was mild, the maximum being 53 degrees. The barofneter was falling in the afternoon at 29.52 inches. OFFICIAL REPORTS
