OIL STORE BROKEN INTO
SUM OF MONEY TAKEN Money amounting to £8 was taken from a cash-box when a thief or thieves broke into the office of the Atlantic Union Oil Company, Ltd.’s store in Matipo street, Riccarton, either late on Wednesday night or early yesterday morning. Although a number of drawers were broken open, no other property was stolen. It is thought that the thieves ran their vehicle, which had a~ spare tyre in front as a buffer, across the footpath, until they were able to push the door in, breaking the lock and carrying away part of the wooden frame. The bricks on either side of the door bore marks of the tread of a tyre, probably used as the buffer. Officials of the company stated that this was the third time that the store had been broken Into since it was erected.
