RIVER CONTROL BILL
4> “ Being Prepared By Department ” RATING PROVISIONS MENTIONED The announcement that the Public Works Department is at present preparing the promised bill for river control—the bill to incorporate provisions meeting drainage problem needs —is made by the Minister for Public Works (the Eon. R. Semple) in a letter sent to the Rangiora County Council, “I have to advise,” the Ministerstates in the letter, ‘‘that my department is now preparing a bill for rivet control which will provide for rating over the whole of the river catchment. When this bill becomes law the local authorities concerned will bo given an opportunity of extending the various river authorities’ jurisdiction to enable more adequate control to be exercised over rivers where the population is suffering from ineffective drainage and Hooding.”
