GIFT PARTIES
Mrs J. Dean and Miss Betty Dean entertained friends at a “linen” gift party in honour of the approaching marriage of Miss Pamela Shackleton to Mr E. G. Brooke. Those present included Mesdames J-. Dean, L. I. Halliday, I. Ryde, A. E. Burford. J. Dean, Burrell, Railton, M. Roy, Misses P. Shackleton, Betty Dean, and Betty Annand. Miss Shackleton was also entertained at a morning tea party held at Ballantynes. Linen gifts were brought by the guests, who included Mrs L. I. Halliday, Mrs A. E. Burford, Misses I. Carson, J. Boot, C. Allott, E. Dinnicombe, P. Cunneen, P. Shackleton, J. Randall, and E. Jarman.
To honour Miss L. Maynard, Mrs L. Waters and Miss D. Duff held an enjoyable evening social in the Ohoka Hall.
The time was spent in dancing, music being supplied by Mrs G. McIntosh. Mr W. Mayer, on behalf of those present, asked Miss Maynard and Mr J. Smith to accept many useful gifts for their future home. Mr R. Jackson acted as master of ceremonies.
Miss Isobel Aitken, whose marriage will take place at Easter, was the guest of honour at’ a “kitchen” gift party given by Mrs E. Evans, at her home in Brougham street. Competitions and games were enjoyed, the winners being Misses Myra Harris, Thelma Evans, and Eileen Higham. The guests invited were Mesdames Tizzard, Evans, Aitken, Misses Myrtle Harris, Isobel Aitken, Gladys Rofe, Eileen Higham, Iris Kerr, Thelma Evans, and Myra Harris.
Other hostesses who entertained Miss Aitken at gift parties included Mrs G. Beary (St. Martins road) and Misses Gladys Rofe and Iris Kerr, will be Miss Aitken’s bridesmaids.
