OFFICIAL FORECASTS FTHB PRESS Special Service.) WELLINGTON, -April 4. The weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough, issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Light to moderate southerly winds, later becoming variable with north-easterlies predominating on the coast. Weather air , to fine, but with possibly some morning fogs. Temperatures'rising nnd seas slight to, moderate. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is as follows: — Light to moderate and variable winds, with southerly predominating at first. Weather fine with mild day, but cool night temperatures. Seas, slight to moderate. DOMINION The Dominion forecast is as follows: Fair to line. Cold night temperatures with some frosts, but milder to-morrow. An extensive and rather intense anti-cyclone covers the Tasman Sea and extends on to the. Dominion.

Winds—South-west to south-east, strong at first in some exposed positions, but soon decreasing, and otherwise light to moderate. A change to northerlies probable . to-morrow over the southern half of the South Island. Seas (New Zealand waters)— Rather rough at first on parts of the East Coast, south of East Cape, and about Cook and Foveaux Straits, but decreasing; elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea—Light to moderate southerly to south-easterly winds, turning to west and north-west later in the southern portion. Seas slight to moderate. - CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER There was brilliant sunshine in Christchurch all day yesterday. The sky was practically clear. A light north-easterly wind, which increased in force in the late afternoon, kept the terhperature cool, the maximum during the day being 57 degrees. At 1 o’clock this morning the sky was clear and there was no .wind. The temperature was 47 degrees. Auckland—Rain in the morning yesterday was followed by fine but cloudy weather, with a light southerly. The maximum temperature was 68 degrees. The barometer was high and steady with the reading at 5 p.m. 1024 millibars. Wellington—After. Very light ram in the early morning the sky cleared and the afternoon was brilliantly fine. A fresh breze blew from the south-east in the morning, but gradually decreased. The minimum temperature on Monday night was 49.3 degrees, and the maximum yesterday 57.3 degrees. At 3.30 p.m. yesterday the temperature was 55.5 degrees, and the barometer reading 1027.8 millibars. ~ • , Dunedin —There was a cold, fresh breeze from the south-west yesterday, and although the sun shone for the greater part of the day. the temperature. did not rise above 60 degrees.
