TINWALD Because of the Easter holidays and the fact that there will be no sale at Ashburton next week, there was a good - demand for prime fat sheep at the Tinwald sale on Monday. The rise in prices represented an improvement of about Is a head on the prices ruling at last week’s sale. There was a good entry at the sale. A small yarding of 226 fat cattle was forward for the Burnside stock sale today, cows and heifers being in the majority. The few prime heavy cattle on offer commanded a ready market which opened brightly with values fully up to those on the previous sale. Later there was an easing and cows and heifers fell - below the opening rates. Extra prime heavy wethers brought to 30s- Gd, prime 23s to 255, medium 19s to 225, light down to 16s, extra prime heavy ewes to IBs 9d, prime 13s to 15s, medium 9s 9d to 12s, and light from 6s. Only 509 fat lambs were forward, mainly medium weight. In keen competition among purchasers, extra prime heavy lambs rose to 32s 3d, and prime heavy sorts brought 23s to 25s 6d. Exporters were operating at full schedule rates, and medium lambs sold at 20s to 22s 6d. Light descriptions made from 16s upwards. Only 34 fat pigs were penned and butr chers put the price up fully 8s a head for both baconers and porkers. The latter made £3 to £3 15s, and baconers sold up to £4 12s. FAIRLIE There was a large entry at the Fairlie sale yesterday. With the exception of a few lines the entry contained aged ewes and medium lambs. The demand was dragging, but most vendors met the market. Toward the end of the sale values slackened considerably. Crossbred ewe lambs met a good sale, but receded toward the end.
